This is my story....i was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in Oct/10..after a PSA test showed a score of 14 which my doctor said was high. My biopsy confirmed the cancer with 5 out of 8 samples showing a presence of cancer.
i weighed my options and chose brachytherapy as the most beneficial. I first met with my oncologist in Jan/11 and was initially put on hormone therapy. In May/11 i had a TRUSS to map the prostate in preparation of the procedure and on June/08/22 i had the brachytherapy procedure. With a spinal anesthetic, there was no pain or discomfort and the procedure took only about 1 hour with a 2 hour recovery period. I was sent home with a catheter, but it was removed the next day.
In the almost 4 months since the procedure i have not experienced any major side effects, however i do continue to take Flowmax. In fact in general i feel no different now than i did before the procedure and was almost immediately able to resume all activities and diet. I am scheduled to have a PSA test in Dec/11 and am confident that it will confirm i am a cancer survivor. In my opinion if you qualify for brachytherapy its the only way to go in the treatment of prostate cancer |
